THE BEAUTIFUL DEVON SEASIDE TOWN BRITS ARE DITCHING SPAIN AND BALI FOR

In 2025, the 'surfing capital of North Devon' with its golden sands and turquoise waters has emerged as an unexpected favourite for families, couples, and thrill-seekers alike.

The trend of staycations is on the rise, leading to a surge in visitors to Devon and Cornwall. The village of Croyde, in particular, has become a hot spot for holidaymakers.

Croyde, known for its golden beaches, world-class surfing, and stunning coastal walks, offers an ideal setting for both family vacations and romantic escapes.

Staycations are gaining popularity among Brits, who now prefer domestic holidays over international destinations like Bali, Spain, and Dubai.

Mark Hutchins, travel expert at Beachlets, said: "Staycations have become more than just a passing trend. "Since 2004, search interest in 'staycations' in the UK has grown by an incredible 9,772%, outgrowing interest in popular international hotspots like Bali, Dubai, Goa and even Spain.

"Turns out, Brits are becoming far more interested in what’s available on their doorstep than jet setting around the world."

Croyde's coastline, a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, has gained fame as a surfing destination, even giving the popular Cornish spot of Newquay a run for its money.

While there are numerous surfing schools for beginners, those apprehensive about surfing can opt for body-boarding, another favourite activity at Croyde Bay.

Croyde isn't just a haven for surfers, it also offers plenty of scenic walks and cycling routes along the South West Coast Path.

A standout spot on this route is Baggy Point, which provides visitors with panoramic views of the Atlantic and an opportunity to discover the area's diverse wildlife.

For the food enthusiasts, Croyde village offers a variety of culinary delights from traditional pubs, sports bars, and brunch spots. If you're visiting between April and November, don't miss out on Croyde's Ice Cream Parlour for a sweet indulgence.

There are numerous other attractions in the nearby areas, including Exmoor National Park and Watermouth Castle, both approximately a half-hour drive from Croyde.
