JECOLIAH, 24

Single

Dating Past?

I’ve been single for the past four or five years. I had a rocky relationship around the age of 19 and ended up pretty hurt, so I’ve been wary of dating since then.

Pre-Date Nerves?

Of course, a complete stranger had chosen my date for me!

First Impressions?

He was already at the restaurant when I arrived and he looked so suave in a dark suit and shades. He was good-looking and I liked the fact he was sitting waiting for me, not playing on his phone.

We gave each other a hug hello and from the word go I thought we felt really comfortable together.

Easy To Talk To?

At first it felt like I was doing all the talking and I was wondering when he was going to ask me a question. But I realised he was probably waiting for me to take a breath so he could speak.

When I slowed up, the conversation flowed freely. We talked about our backgrounds, he’s one of three from East London and I’m one of nine in South-East London.

I showed him a picture of my family and he didn’t flinch as if to say: ‘Oh no, she’s already showing me her family.’

We chatted about his career too and our music tastes. I was surprised he was into house music. It shows you shouldn’t make assumptions about people.

"I gave his cheek a peck but wanted to kiss him on the lips "

Embarrassing Moments?

It was someone’s birthday in the restaurant and because I’m a singer, I joined in with Happy Birthday. I could tell even the man’s family thought it was too loud but I wasn’t embarrassed — I think Aaron was though.

Did sparks fly?

I’d like to think so. I felt attracted to him and I felt there was fondness from him. After the meal, Aaron suggested spending more time together so we walked to a park and sat on a bench to talk.

At the end, I leaned over and gave him a peck on the cheek to say goodbye but really wanted to kiss him on the lips.

See him again?

It was a lovely date. I feel like I’ll see him again, but only if he wants to. If nothing else I’ve realised there’s some good eggs my age out there.

What do you think he thought of you?

He was quieter than me so it was hard to tell if he liked me. I didn’t sense him flirting but I got the impression he enjoyed my company.

Would your family like him?

Oh, 100 per cent. My mum would think he was handsome.

AARON, 25

Single

Dating Past?

I’ve been single for a while. The last relationship I had was about two years ago and I’ve not been serious about anyone since.

Pre-Date Nerves?

No, not really. I’ve not been on a blind date before, but I like meeting new people.

BLIND DATE VITAL STATISTICS

JECOLIAH

Single.

CURRENT ROLE

Jazz vocalist.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

I like men who are honest, humorous, humble and handsome — I mean, I don’t ask for much but the four H’s. Everything else is a bonus.

AARON

Single.

CURRENT ROLE

I work in sales for conferences and events.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

Someone kind, caring and a little bit quirky and adventurous. A softer type of woman — my ideal is the singer and songwriter Doja Cat, who is unique and different.

First Impressions?

When she walked in, she was wearing a cheetah-print outfit and had a great smile. She walked over to my table with a confident grin and I felt we had a definite vibe.

Easy To Talk To?

Absolutely. She was very open and confident and we talked non-stop for over four hours in the restaurant, although I can’t remember much about what we discussed.

It broke the ice that she was wearing cheetah-print as cheetahs are my favourite animal — I even have a tattoo of a cheetah on my hand.

She’s going to Jamaica soon and that’s where my family are originally from. We talked about the food and the decor in the restaurant. There was no awkwardness and we laughed a lot.

"I can’t remember all our conversation — but that’s a good sign "

Embarrassing moments?

At one point, she got up to go to the bathroom and walked into a pillar but she laughed about it, which I liked. She also sung along to Happy Birthday for another diner and it was so loud, I nearly asked her to stop.

Did sparks fly?

It’s too early to say. I like to take time to get to know someone but there was definitely a connection and she’s a very cool person.

See her again?

We swapped numbers at the end and we’ve spoken a little over WhatsApp since the date, but we haven’t arranged anything.

We had a great time though and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye when we left the restaurant, so we walked to a park. We had a hug and a kiss on the cheek at the end.

What do you think she thought of you?

She said she usually dated older people but that it was nice to see she could connect with me as I’m the same age — so clearly she thought there’s some connection.

Would your family like her?

Yes, but if I introduced her as a girlfriend they might be surprised as she’s not my usual type. The date made me realise I should be more open to new people.
